Before Bob and I decided to make
the escape from the Chicago area we
pictured Mountain Home, Arkansas as remote, endless dirt roads,
no shopping and far from all the creature comforts.
We were
so wrong. Everything important is here
except the crowds, traffic and all the
headaches associated with Big City Living. We
were two Boomers ready to Escape and reinvent ourselves in kinder
gentler place! We found it! We decided to
BOOMERS RETIRE TO
MOUNTAIN HOME ARKANSAS!
I will never forget the day we moved into
our new mountain home. It had grown dark by the
time we were done. As we sat down on the back porch to rest,
looking up we saw that the night sky was
breathtaking! We had never seen stars like we
saw them that night. No "city lights" to lessen
their wonder. What a gift that night was to us.
We had heard about great Real Estate
in Mountain Home, Arkansas from
other empty nesters and
boomers like ourselves
who were moving to the twin lakes
area. We left the Big City and
the high
property taxes behind and fell
in love with the Baxter County area of North
Central Arkansas. We were so happy we decided to Retire To
Arkansas!

What's here in Baxter and
Marion County ARKANSAS? Two beautiful
lakes: Bull Shoals and Lake Norfork. These
are man made lakes that were formed in the 1940's.and
50's. Dams were built to generate electric power.
The result, two clean and clear fresh water lakes that
Never Freeze! That means boating
and fishing year round and scuba
diving three seasons. Many beautiful rivers are also
in the Twin Lakes area, the most famous is the
White River stocked with trout, other rivers
are the Buffalo and North Fork
Rivers. 
We also have the Ozark mountains
with rolling hills, stately oaks, tall pine trees, wild flowers and
fields of beautiful grasses. The landscape here is
breath taking! This area lends itself to cattle farming, goats,
dairy farms and horses. The ozarks are a beautiful low mountain
range in the South Central U.S. We call our selves the Twin Lakes
area because of Lake Norfork and Lake Bull Shoals.

I almost forgot to mention the
weather. We have all four seasons here in
Baxter and Marion Counties! The winters are
much milder than up north and if it snows it
usually melts in a few hours to a few days. I am told that the
lakes and the Ozark mountains help to protect this area from most
big storms. In the last 4 years that we have been here
many ice, rain, snow and wind storms have hit the
Springfield-Branson Missouri which is about 2 hrs. north of
where we are. Also it hits south of us in the Little Rock
area. I don't know why but the bad weather seems to part North
and South of us and goes around. Maybe it is these old Ozark
Mountains... WHAT A GREAT PLACE TO LIVE!
